- MERIDIAN WAX FOR SALE: BEST OF BRITISH
The largest exporting country of bees wax is Asia. 700 tonnes of bees wax is imported into the UK each year. The BBKA have warned beekeepers this year (BBKA News No 224 Jan 2017) to avoid foundation that appears very inexpensive and to watch out for products with an unfamiliar smell, pale in colour and greasy. These sheets may have been made with paraffin wax and can have a negative impact on brood development and contaminate honey.
Meridian shop has British wax foundation for sale purchased from Peter Kemble. It is excellent quality and the best wax money can buy. Regularly replacing brood comb wax is the best way of avoiding brood diseases as well as invigorating the bees.
Brood wax wired sheets £1.05

A Beekeeper's Year
A practical guide to caring for bees and beehives. An account of a first year of beekeeping using Warre, Top Bar and Flow Hives By Janet Luke.
A Beekeeper's Year follows the progress of three novice beekeepers with three different types of hive, as they navigate their way through their first year of beekeeping. Follow their journey as they set up and manage their Top Bar, Warre and Flow hives - from obtaining bees to inspecting their hives, extracting honey and closing down the hive for the winter. A Beekeeper's Year is an ideal introduction to backyard beekeeping, with everything you need to know about what equipment is required, managing your hives, keeping your bees healthy and pest and disease control. It is packed with stunning yet practical photographs to help you understand these fascinating creatures that are essential to the production of our food.

The Buzz about Bees
Biology of a Superorganism by Jurgen Tautz. £37 from Northern Bee Books. With Photographs by Helga R. Heilmann.
With spectacularly beautiful colour photographs and an easy understandable text The Buzz about Bees tells the story of honey-bees in a new perspective. Based on the latest data, notably from his won research group, Jurgen Tautz provides a wonderful insight into the realms of bees. The entire range of astonishing bee activities is described. Remarkable action photographs never shown before present bees busy with cell cleaning, caring for the brood, serving in the queen’s court, visiting flowers, receiving nectar, producing honey, comb building, entrance guarding, heating and cooling. Spotlights include bees grooming, swarming, fighting, telephoning, sleeping and communicating by high-toned beeping, scents and dances.

- BEEKEEPING EQUIPMENT FOR SALE
May I take the opportunity to introduce myself, as a fellow beekeeper (and also poultry farmer), I have been in business 28 years and live and work on the farm, I decided to diversify into selling bee keeping equipment simply because it was not available to myself and colleagues on a weekend afternoon when we most needed it!
As this is our first year the variety of stock is limited but we can offer a real good quality Canadian Western Red Cedar National with a flat roof “ first” quality and our Unique Alighting Board attached to the Base.
I also have a selection of frames, tools and equipment available for collection or delivery from our Farm in Neath, the prices for all the equipment I believe are quite reasonable, and hope the above may be of interest to you.
Please see attached flyer and current price list, and a selection of photographs and if we can be of help in anyway, please do not hesitate to contact us.
