MERIDIAN MESSAGE BOARD
A NOTE FROM LOUISE NOV 2017
Just to let you know that I found a green woodpecker flying from one of my hives at the weekend, no damage done , but a pertinent reminder. Now is the time to
- heft hives and ensure they are heavy- you should have been feeding already if they were underweight, but fondant can be fed now. This will also give you an idea of whether they will need a top up fondant feed anyway.
- Protect your hives from green woodpeckers and mice
- Get Asian hornet traps ready- if December is as warm as it was last year we will need to deploy before Christmas.
- Sign up with me for the BBKA assessment revision day on the 21 April 2018.
Sue Bailey and I are planning to watch some of the online lectures downloaded from the National Honey Show when they become available. This may be at Sue’s house ( thank you) in Botley. If you are interested please contact me at
Watch out for the email invitation to join us.
Bee Craft has carried articles about the Asian hornet since 2011 so click here for the first of 3 pages from our September 2011 issue, and we also had a description of the Apishield hornet trap in April 2014 .
